EPILEPSY CLINIC

EPILEPSY CLINIC

CLINICAL ACTIVITIES

The Epilepsy Clinic aims to investigate, diagnose and treat patients with epilepsy. The clinic has evaluated more than 1100 patients, of whom about 500 continue to be monitored regularly.

Epilepsy is a heterogeneous group of diseases manifesting with epileptic seizures. They are often accompanied by additional neurological and psychiatric symptomatology. Epilepsy that is well controlled by treatment and not accompanied by clinically significant comorbidity can be treated by neurologists without specificity in epilepsy. A significant minority of patients with epilepsy, however, still has seizures despite treatment and / or is affected by comorbid conditions that require specialist treatment by specialists.

Evaluation, diagnostic investigation, monitoring and therapeutic treatment are performed at the Clinic under the care of a neurologist specialized in epilepsy. There is close cooperation with the other structures of the First Department of Neurology and Eginitio Hospital:

- Laboratories of Clinical Neurophysiology Unit: (1) Electroencephalography, (2) Long-term Video Electroencephalography, (3) Polysomnography and Sleep Disorders.

- Inpatient Ward of Neurodegenerative disorders and epilepsy (Ward B)

- Neuropsychiatric Clinic of the First Department of Psychiatry

- Radiology Research Unit, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens

The Unit is located within the premises of Eginitio Hospital and cooperates closely with it.

The research activities of the Epilepsy Clinic are related to those of Electroencephalography and Polysomnography.
