INPATIENT WARD A
STRUCTURE AND SERVICES
Inpatient Ward A comprises 12 patient beds, divided into 6 double rooms, three of which are equipped with vital function monitoring devices (6 total supervised hospitalization beds). This department mainly treats patients with vascular diseases of the nervous system, such as ischemic or haemorrhagic infarction (Stroke Unit), and neurological patients requiring urgent care, such as patients with headache or encephalitis.
The Ward A also includes the Neuro-Ultrasound Unit with an ultrasound machine for the immediate imaging of intracranial and extracranial cervical-brain vessels of patients treated or referred by other wards with a specific diagnostic question (Dr. Tountopoulou operates this technique).
Ward A is staffed by a multidisciplinary team that includes, specialist internist (Antonis Dimitrakopoulos), cardiologist (Elias Gialafos), psychiatrist (Elias Tzavelas) neuro-radiologists (Panagiotis Toulas, Giorgos Velonakis), neuroscientists, physicians, physiotherapists (Efthymios Schinas), and occupational therapists (Markos Zaxaris). After hospitalization patients attend specific Outpatient Clinics that are related to the condition they are suffering from.
During their care, all patients with motor deficits or instability undergo immediate Physiotherapy (Efthymios Schinas), while the Social Service (Maskos Zaxaris) evaluates the patient's social history and provides information and support to himself and his family, which is mainly related to insurance coverage. and the rehabilitation of patients.
In Ward A, there are 4-5 physicians (residents) trained in Neurology, who play a very important role in patient care. Undergraduate Students of the Medical School and of the Nursing School during their training in Neurology, participate in the hospitalization of patients as a subsidiary
