Welcome to the Web page of the First Dept of Neurology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) Medical School at Eginition Hospital. The Department is the largest in Greece, with a long tradition in the offering of clinical services, education at the undergraduate and post-graduate level, and research in the field of neurological diseases. Indicative of the stature of the Department is that it was recognized in 2019 as a Center of Excellence in 4 different categories of Rare and Complex Neurological Diseases.
The First Dept. of Neurology at the NKUA applies, in the field of education of undergraduate and postgraduate students, principles and methods that are in accordance with the contemporary methodology of Education, while in the realm of research it has received wide recognition. This is indicated by existing collaborations with international research teams, as well as by the number and quality of publications related to these ongoing research efforts. Lastly, the clinical work of the Department, which is applied based on international diagnostic and therapeutic algorithms, is offered in specialized units, which include in-patient wards, outpatient Clinics and laboratories of international renown.
The Department offers education in Clinical Neurology to fifth year Medical students of the NKUA. It also participates in the Post-graduate Masters Programs of the NKUA in Clinical Neurophysiology, Clinical Neuropsychology and Neurosciences. There is an intense educational program geared towards the Neurology residents, but also towards other young Neurologists.
