PHYSICAL THERAPY SERVICE

PHYSICAL THERAPY SERVICE

The Physiotherapy Service aims at designing and applying a completely individualized program of physiotherapy to all patients being hospitalized.

The 1st Department of Neurology has four different inpatient wards, each one specializing in certain diseases. More specifically:

Ward A: Stroke and other vascular disorders of the central nervous system, as well as headache and encephalitis.

Ward B: Neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson's disease, as well as epilepsy

Ward C: Diseases of the peripheral nervous system.

Ward D: Demyelinating diseases of the central nervous system, such as multiple sclerosis.

The Physical Therapy Service covers also patients followed in the Specialized Outpatint Neurological Clinics.

The design and treatment planning of the physiotherapeutic program includes individualized evaluation of each disease, determination of goals to be achieved and a therapeutic approach with reevaluation after completion of treatment having in mind the life of the patient after his discharge from the physiotherapeutic department. The therapeutic intervention aims at helping patients reintegrate into society, having addressed not only their functional problems but also having taken into consideration the psychological impact and emotional aspects of their problems. There is close collaboration with the medical staff on daily basis as well as daily participation in the medical visits to the departments.

The Physical Therapy Service is run by two physiotherapists with many years of experience in the field of Physiotherapy and specialized clinical knowledge.
