
He studied at the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) and specialized in Neurology in France. He obtained a DEA (MSc) in Comparative Psychology of Cognitive Functions from EHESS in Paris. His doctoral thesis, completed at the Medical School of the University of Athens and the University of Paris VII, focused on the neuropsychology of olfaction in Parkinson’s disease. He worked in France and then in Greece, in public hospitals of the Greek National Health System (Laiko and Evangelismos hospitals), and since 2003, he has been working as a clinical neurologist with a special interest in Neuropsychology (including traumatic brain injuries, cognitive deficits in strokes, and Parkinson’s disease) at the Neurology Clinic of NKUA at the Eginition Hospital.
The main motivation for his career has been the introduction of clinical neuropsychology in Greece. In this context, he co-organized and currently directs the intergovernmental Master's program in Clinical Neuropsychology and Cognitive Neurosciences at the Medical School of NKUA, in collaboration with the MNI of McGill University in Montreal. He also teaches Neurology and Neuropsychology to undergraduate students at the Medical School of NKUA and the Department of Psychology at Panteion University. He is the head of the Neuropsychology and Language Disorders Unit and participates in the specialized outpatient clinics for Extrapyramidal Disorders at the First Neurology Clinic of NKUA at Eginition Hospital.
His two main research interests are the mechanisms of language/aphasia and cognitive deficits/behavioral disorders in diseases of the basal ganglia. His publications focus on neuropsychological disorders in various clinical conditions, specifically traumatic brain injuries, olfaction, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, aphasia, and pain. He has translated and edited many books on Neuropsychology and Language in both Greek and English. He is a co-editor of the Greek journal of neuroscience and human sciences, Synapsis.
